This novel about manners and love was first published in 1813, but still has a lot to teach us today. The central character Elizabeth Bennett travels through Regency England dealing with issues of love, morals, education and marriage. Elizabeth clashes with Mr Darcy and his pride which leads to perceived arrogance against the local country society. Whilst her tendency to judge on first impressions – or her prejudice, leads to a lack of understanding love soon blossoms. The lively characters and scandalous sub-plot involving one of Elizabeth’s more vivacious sisters make this novel a joyous and rapturous read.
Pride and Prejudice is a wondrous and fascinating read for all!
