Sauron, the Dark Lord, has summoned all the Rings of Power to rule Middle-earth. The only thing stopping his villainous dominion is the indestructible One Ring, the ring which rules them all, which is in the hands of old Bilbo Baggins from the Shire. He chooses his birthday to pass on the ring (which he has had in his possession since finding it) to Frodo, his heir. In doing so, it is Frodo that becomes the central character of the novel. With the fellowship of a sorcerer, man, hobbit, elf and dwarf, Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to Mount Doom – there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil plan. Frodo and his companions encounter many obstacles of astounding proportions which they must deal with to complete their quest in destroying the ring.
Submerged in exceptional magic and otherworldliness, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is an epic tale of friendship, love and heroism. If there is only one fantasy book you read, make it Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.
